The 3rd Life Without Limits Gala took place on March 2nd, 2017 held once again at the Best Western Plus Chateau Granville Hotel in downtown Vancouver.
Don Lehn, with his comedic flow and well-timed sarcasm opened the night to a great start, and joined by Deputy Mayor Geoff Meggs, Scotiabank representative Zak Khokar, and our very own Executive Director Feri Dehdar for introductory remarks.
Canadian Paralympian Nathan DeWitt was our guest keynote speaker of the night and talked with great passion and detail about his experience dealing with competing interests as a student-athlete.
Following Nathan, Leora Shipley shared her story involving her son, Nathan Shipley and out Equipment Assistive Devices Fund. Nathan was a proud recipient of our Equipment Assistive Devices Fund which helped him and his family to purchase a portable lift helping him transition through his day to day activities.
The major highlight of the evening, a live screening of the Play Without Limits short film came next, showcasing the journey we had with the Darvish family. The short film showcased a trio of inspiring stories, one of which was the embodiment of the Play Without Limits theme.
The night was filled with a great atmosphere with a [three course diner], entertainment, and a silent auction. The gala raised approximately $[insert value] and [all proceeds went towards the CPABC’s Youth Without Limits peer support group, Youth Navigator program, Tanabe Bursary, and Pre-Employment Program.
The theme “Play Without Limits” helped to celebrate all of the CPABC’s accomplishes and effort put forth into improving the disability community in British Columbia and also inspiring action for the future.
